Event Signage Checklist: What You Need and When to Order
Updated ·4 min read
Most events need signs in five places: arrival and directions, the stand or stage, sponsor and pitch-side areas, tables and counters, and take-down. Work through them in that order, then count back from your event date. Banners take 1 to 2 working days to make and roller banners 1 to 2 working days, plus delivery, and next day delivery is available at checkout.

Arrival and Directions
People should know where to go before they reach the door.
- Pavement A-boards for the entrance, with a poster you can change for each day of the event.
- PVC banners on fences and railings, so the event name can be seen from the road. See our guide to PVC banner sizes.
- Flat Foamex signs for arrows and directions around the site.
- Freestanding directional signs where nothing is there to fix a sign to.
The Stand or Stage
This is where people stop, so it carries your biggest branding.
- Roller banners at 850 × 2000mm. They stand on their own base and set up in minutes.
- Fabric display stand for a straight backdrop. It is quoted per job and is made of seamless stretch fabric over a lightweight aluminium frame, with replacement graphics available.
- PVC banners behind or beside the stage, at a size made to fit.
Our exhibition signage page has more ideas for stands.
Sponsor and Pitch-Side
Sponsors expect to be seen, so give them a clear position.
- Football toblerones are triangular pitch-side advertising units with a 300mm face, in a single 1200mm unit, a pair, or sets of four at 1200mm or 2000mm.
- PVC banners along barriers and railings, printed to your size.
- Roller banners for a sponsor's own stand area.
Check each sponsor's artwork early, because it is often the slowest part of the job.
Tables and Counters
Small signs do a lot of work at the point where people talk to you.
- Table-top signs in A6, A5 and A4, single or double-sided.
- Strut cards for offers and information on a counter or table. They take 1 to 2 working days to make.
- Posters in A5 to A0 for walls and windows, made in 2 working days.
- Acrylic card holders in A6, A5 and A4, with an optional printed insert.
Take-Down and Reuse
Plan the end of the event when you order, not after it.
- A roller banner retracts into its base, so it packs away and travels easily.
- A fabric display stand can be reused with replacement graphics.
- A-board posters slot into a frame, so you can swap the message for your next date.
- Avoid putting a date on a sign you want to use again.
Our event signage page has more on planning for a series of events.
When to Order
Count back from the day you need everything in place. For each sign, add:
- time to finish and approve artwork, because production starts when you approve your proof;
- production, which is 1 to 2 working days for PVC banners, 1 to 2 working days for roller banners, 1 to 2 working days for strut cards, 2 working days for posters and 3 working days for A-boards;
- delivery, which is 3 to 5 working days as standard or 1 working day with next day delivery at checkout.
Leave a few spare days in case a proof needs a change. Many products offer priority or express production for an extra charge, and large items need large-item delivery. Our guide to how long a sign takes has the full timings.
Common Questions
What signs do I need for an event?
Most events need directions at the entrance, branding at the stand or stage, sponsor signs, small signs for tables and counters, and a plan for take-down. The checklist above takes you through each zone.
How far ahead should I order event signs?
Count back from your event date and add artwork approval, production and delivery. Banners take 1 to 2 working days to make, then delivery of 3 to 5 working days as standard, or 1 working day with next day delivery.
Can I get event signs the next day?
Next day delivery takes 1 working day from dispatch. Some products also offer express production of 1 to 2 working days for an extra charge. Call us before you order if the deadline is tight.
What is best for reusing at several events?
Roller banners and fabric display stands pack down and travel well, and A-board posters can be swapped. Leave dates off the artwork if you want to use a sign again.
Do you supply sponsor signs for sports events?
Yes. Our football toblerones are pitch-side advertising units, and PVC banners can be printed to any size up to 10m × 3m. See our sports club signage page.
